KUCHING: The American Degree Programme (ADP) students from SEGi College Sarawak were given the opportunity to interact directly with professors from Troy University, USA in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The American professors Dr Maryjo Adams Cochran from Hall School of Journalism and Communications and Dr Kirk Davis from the College of Education, Division of Psychology made their maiden trip to Kuala Lumpur, as part of the commitment by Troy University to send two academicians per semester to Malaysia to teach at SEGi College.

The visit gave students an American-style classroom experience that promoted more practical learning than lectures on theories.

“It was an eye-opening experience as there were different approaches to teaching. We gained knowledge from Dr Davis as he shared insights on the field of psychology,” said psychology student Jamsreruun Jamaran.

“Overall, it was a great experience as the teaching method used was very relaxed — yet informative. The professors showed a true experience of an American teaching method,” said Jamsreruun.

Meanwhile Li Yuan Sing said although they did not have long hours of lectures, they had more practical activities that helped them gain better understanding on the lessons.

It is acknowledged that the American method of delivery has contributed to the improvement of students’ skills in the following areas: teamwork, leadership, management, communications, emotional intelligence and critical thinking.

These are all the qualities present in the DNA of SEGians.

Meanwhile, the SEGi 4+0 ADP with Troy University offers the following qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Communications Arts (Promotion minor), Bachelor of Science in Communications Arts (Psychology minor), Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Communications Studies minor), Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Global General Business minor) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Global Business major).

SEGi has years of experience in offering quality American degree programmes that enable young Malaysians to pursue American academic qualifications without having to leave Malaysia.

It is also the only private higher institution here that offers 4+0 American degrees.

SPM students with a minimum of five credits are encouraged to apply as they can enroll directly after Form 5. Registration for new intake is currently open.
