KUCHING: Students pursuing the Early Childhood Care and Education programme at SEGi College Sarawak gained valuable knowledge and experience during a two-day volunteer programme at the recent Pustaka Bookaroo Festival.

The Bookaroo Festival aims to bring the wonders and benefits of reading to children, making it the perfect opportunity for these students to put their classroom knowledge to practical use.

The students from the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) and BA (Hons) in Early Years Education (BAEYE) programmes were praised by the event’s organisers as well as their supervisors from SEGi’s Faculty of Education and Social Science (FESS) for their enthusiasm and professionalism in helping to make the event a success, a statement from the college said.

The students worked together with industry players and other facilitators present to encourage the children to express themselves through art and play in addition to reading, in various sessions held during the event.

This project has helped to improve the students’ teamwork, leadership and management, communication, interpersonal, lifelong learning, citizenship, job readiness and critical thinking skills.

The experience gained from this activity will be shared with other students who missed the opportunity to join the event, as well as future students.

SEGi College Sarawak is inviting those passionate about early education and interested to venture into this industry to take up the Diploma in Early Childhood and Education BA (Hons) in Early Year Education.

The latter is awarded by the University of Greenwich, United Kingdom.

The June intake is currently open for registration.
