[StarBiz] Learning options in Hainan

SEGi University hosted a Hainan (China) International Education Talk at its campus recently to provide students and employees with detailed information on opportunities for further studies in the China’s Hainan province.

The event was organised by the Confucius Institute, a Chinese non-profit educational organisation that provides Chinese language lessons, promotes Chinese language and culture, and facilitates educational and cultural exchanges.

In partnership with the Hainan Normal University, SEGi University established the first Confucius Institute at SEGi in 2015, making it the first Malaysian private university to host the institute.

Deputy Director-General of the Education Department (Hainan Province) Li Yuenan was accompanied by 11 delegates from Hainan universities and colleges to share information about their respective campuses, programmes and scholarship opportunities.

During his speech, Li shared about the current status of higher education in Hainan, and explained the necessity of strengthening cultural and educational co-operation between China and Malaysia.

A direct flight to Hainan from Kuala Lumpur takes around 3.5 hours.

Li also hoped that bilateral friendships would be strengthened through opportunities initiated by the Confucius Institute at SEGi University.

Also present at the event were the Institute’s Malaysian director Lydia Foong, her Chinese counterpart Chen Ming Hui, as well as Qiongtai Normal University Foreign Language Department dean Ma Yurong.
