[The Star] RM38mil in scholarship awaits

By Jeremy Tan

SEGi University and Colleges is one of the largest private higher education providers in Malaysia, offering a wide variety of programmes from foundation to doctorate level.

At its flagship university campus in Kota Damansara, as well as four colleges in Subang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sarawak, students are prepped to be tomorrow’s leaders in their chosen career fields.

The institution is awarding scholarships worth up to RM38mil for students who join its April 2015 intake, in line with its belief that everyone deserves global quality education.

Study options are aplenty for school leavers, according to SEGi College Penang principal T.K. Cheah.

School leavers may opt for foundation studies, which prepare them for their programmes of choice.

There are diplomas for Allied Health Science, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Hospitality, Early Childhood Care and Education, among others.

These are complemented by 3+0 Bachelor Degrees in the fields of Information Technology, Engineering and Business, offered in collaboration with renowned institutions from the United Kingdom like the University of Greenwich and University of Sunderland.

Cheah revealed that SEGi had recently entered into a new partnership with Troy University in the United States of America, founded in 1887 as Troy State Normal School in the southeastern state of Alabama.

It is now the flagship university of the Troy University System, with a main campus enrolment of around 7,000, with a further 20,000 studying at various other campuses.

Troy University is accredited by the America’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, education specialist, and doctoral degrees.

The collaboration will allow SEGi to offer the Bachelor of Sciences in Communication Arts, which will be introduced soon. It can be fully completed at the Penang campus.

It is a great opportunity to obtain an American degree right here in Penang, as one does not need to transfer to the US. This saves on finances, and students can remain with their family and friends here.

SEGi has also won numerous awards in recent years, a testament to the trustworthiness of the brand, and its high quality of delivery.

The latest honour came in the prestigious World Branding Awards in the United Kingdom, where SEGi won in the Education category.

Other accolades from independent organisations include the Putra Brand Award, Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Award, and Brand Laureate Award, amongst others.

To find out more, visit SEGi’s booth at The Star Education Fair 2015, where friendly counsellors will be on hand to offer students and parents advice on study options and career pathways.

The fair will be held at the Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Relau on March 21 and 22, from 11am to 7pm daily.

Entrance is free.
