[The Star] UK study experience for students

ELEVEN students from SEGi College Subang Jaya were selected as recipients for the special UOS Celebratory President Scholarships. The awards allow them a year of study at the University of Sunderland, the United Kingdom (UK).

The students who were pursuing the University of Sunderland programme at SEGi, recently arrived in the UK to puruse their respective courses.There were two types of scholarships – the Undergraduate Study Abroad Student Scholarship and the Postgraduate Study Abroad Student Scholarship.

Both scholarships each cover one year accommodation at the University’s Halls of Residence. A cash bursary of £500 (RM3,000) was also awarded to the students to assist them with their living expenses.

The recipients were given preparatory sessions to equip them for their journey to the UK, before their departure.

The sessions included a briefing by Doreen D’Orville, the Deputy Principal, Academics and Koh Yoke Ling, Manager of Professional Experience Office, from SEGi College Subang Jaya.

There was also a special briefing by University of Sunderland representatives who gave them tips on adjusting to campus life in the UK.

The undergraduate recipients Chong Ting Hui, Eng Zheng Yu, Gideon Lim Li Qian, Sandra Chng Sue Yen and Tan Vee Vien, are pursuing the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business & Marketing Management.

Other recipients included Jasminder Kaur, Mugheshwaran Ganason and Wong Hoong Ming who are pursuing the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business & Management and Wong Win Sern, who is pursuing the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business & Human Resource Management.

The postgraduate candidates include Lim Kar Chun and Mok Chew Ling who are pursuing a Master’s degree in Science in Engineering Management and Master of Arts in International Management, respectively.

“I would like to thank SEGi College Subang Jaya and the University of Sunderland for providing me with this amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study in the UK.

“I have always wanted to study abroad and with such overwhelming support from everyone around me, I am now fortunate enough to realise this dream,” said Gideon.

“I am grateful to my college lecturers and administrators who patiently offered guidance to help me at every turn of my studies,” he added.

Sandra added, “I would like to thank SEGi College Subang Jaya for its guidance throughout the process in obtaining the scholarship. I am truly grateful.”
