[The Star] Varsity’s state-of-the-art learning

SEGi University is the first private institution of learning in Malaysia to launch, adopt and embed Google for Education Apps and its learning resources into the programmes offered by the Faculty of Education.

The university entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Google for Education to utilise Google Apps for Education and its resources to make learning and teaching more efficient and engaging for members of its Faculty of Education.

Under the MoA, academicians and students at the Faculty of Education will use Google Apps for Education.

This will enable academicians to create, review and organise assignments, as well as communicate directly with students.

SEGi University will also provide the venue and training for future Google Apps for Education courses and examinations by members of other education institutions in Malaysia.

SEGi University acting vice-chancellor Prof Dr Patrick Kee said: “SEGi is proud to enter into this MoA with Google to be part of developing successful people for the nation.”

“It is our hope that with this tool, our students can be part of a learning system that would help them become their best.

“This MoA is also a quantum leap for our educators as they now have the opportunity to equip themselves with the skills to utilise technology in the classroom by leveraging on the Google for Education Training Centre,” he said.

It is a professional platform development and upon successful completion, educators can be known as “Google Certified Educator” and are then certified to use Google tools in the classroom.

Prof Kee also encouraged students to pursue the level one certification examination to help build their career portfolio.

SEGi University Faculty of Education head Lydia Foong said the faculty is constantly seeking new ways to meet the needs of the 21st century learners.

“Learning no longer has to be one size fits all or confined to the classroom.

“We hope that students and lecturers at SEGi University will embrace Google for Education as we prepare them to be learners for life,” she added.

The MoA was signed by Prof Kee and Google Malaysia head of education Rahayu Ramli and witnessed by Foong and Google for Education Asia education programme coordinator Amir Amha.
