KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to deliver a keynote address at the inaugural SEGi University 2019 MYINDUSTRIES Conference set to take place this Sept 5-7.

Themed “A Global Revolution in Business, Technology and Productivity”, the conference will feature two cabinet ministers who will also present talks along with experts from around the world who will speak on topics related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0).

SEG International Bhd group executive director and group chief executive officer, Hew Moi Lan said that SEGi University was honoured to have the prime minister to speak at the event.

“We have been given this great honour. It all began quite some time back as we had invited the prime minister to give a keynote address at the conference,” she said during a press conference at the university’s campus in Kota Damansara near here recently.

There will be 75 sessions, while the conference topics will fall under 10 broad topics of business, healthcare, technology trends, machine vision, artificial intelligence (AI), e-learning, communication, security, electronics and computing.

“The world is changing, and every country will need to keep abreast with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The question we should ask ourselves is whether our country is prepared for these changes?

“SEGi University wants to contribute to this new wave as we want to be at the forefront of it.

“The university is providing a platform where industry players can gather to give their views for the benefit of all. That’s why were are organising this conference as it is a cause which is very dear to our hearts,” said Hew.

Meanwhile, SEGi University vice chancellor Prof Dr Patrick Kee said the conference followed a string of collaborations between the varsity and high-profile industry players to further advance Malaysia’s role in IR 4.0.

In May, the university signed a memorandum of agreement with Mimos Bhd to set up the SEGi-Mimos Centre of Excellence in AI at its main campus in Kota Damansara.

Four years ago, the varsity launched its first Research and Development Blueprint (2016 — 2020). The blueprint is focused on building a dynamic ecosystem to re-align its research and academic output to meet the current global demand on human capital.

Besides Dr Mahathir, the other speakers at the conference will be Human Resources Minister M. Kula Segaran and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darrell Leiking.

An exhibition will also be held in conjunction with the conference. The university is inviting participation from all areas of expertise as the conference and exhibition are now open for registration.

The conference is Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) claimable, and organisations are encouraged to send employees to attend the event.
