TO increase the options for international internships and employment for its students, SEGi University has formalised its collaboration with several of Mauritius’ Optometric practices.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by SEGi University deputy vice-chancellor Prof Azrin Esmady Ariffin, who is also dean, Faculty of Optometry & Vision Sciences and the Mauritius’ Optometric practices representatives, Jaffer Patel (J Patel Optometrist), Gopee Yudisteeraj (EZIO Opticians), Diksha Sungkur (D. Sungkur Optometrist), Mohammad Rechad Nazir (R & S Nazir Optician), and Anoopum Gaya (Gaya Opticians).

It was witnessed by Vice-Consul Education from Education Malaysia at the Consulate General of Malaysia, Dubai. A D Akmal Mohamed Ali.

The MoU will elevate the existing collaboration between the university’s Faculty of Optometry & Vision Sciences (FOVS) and selected Optometric practices in Mauritius, namely EZIO Opticians (EZIO Vision Ltd), D. Sungkur Optometrist Ltd., R & S Nazir Optician, and Gaya Opticians. This is to strengthen the friendship and co-operation through internships for FOVS’ students in Mauritius, a country with a regulated practice in Optometry outside of the Commonwealth, during their internship period within their four-year Bachelor of Optometry programme.

The Bachelor of Optometry degree from SEGi University is currently the only Malaysian University Optometric qualification that is registrable in Mauritius within the Mauritius Optometric Law.

The collaboration also coincides with the building of the foundation for the formation of the SEGi Alumni Association (Mauritius Chapter), sealing a long outstanding relationship between SEGi University and Ex-SEGians Mauritians.

“For more than 40 years, SEGi has been offering top-notch programmes that prepare students for successful careers and has grown into one of the largest and most dynamic private education institutions in Malaysia, with strong industry linkages in Malaysia and internationally-recognised degrees in collaboration with renowned university and industry partners.

“With the local businesses’ validation in providing internships to our students, we would like to see our graduates obtain employment as soon as they join the workforce.” said Prof Azrin
