PRIMARY Six pupils of SJK(T) RRI Sungai Buloh are learning English in a fun and interactive way, thanks to the efforts of trainee teachers from SEGi University.

Under the programme, dubbed Rainbow Road To Success, the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) majors are helping to improve the pupils’ language ability.

“Our trainees have been going every Thursday for an hour to coach pupils in English,” said the programme’s adviser Prof Dr Mogana Dhamotharan who handed over English Language resources and materials at a ceremony in the school.

She said the pupils’ performance had improved tremendously as some of them were not even able to recognise letters of the alphabet at the start of the programme.

Rainbow Road to Success, added Prof Mogana, was also beneficial for the trainees as it helped them understand their job better and determine if they were suited for the profession.

“This way, they get to see if they really want to become teachers as it gives them the necessary experience. They will definitely be a rainbow in someone’s cloud,” said Prof Mogana.

The trainees also set up five English testing stations to give pupils the chance to practise their reading and comprehension, grammar, sentence construction, short paragraph and short essay skills.

The materials presented were aimed at engaging interest among the pupils to learn the language and ranged from pictures to cue cards.

“All of them have shown improvements in one way or another and we hope they will do well in the examination,” Lee said
